Gwendolyn DuBois Shaw is Associate Professor of American Art and affiliated faculty in Africana Studies, Cinema Studies, and Women and Gender Studies. She received her PhD in art history from Stanford University and then held an appointment as an assistant professor of History of Art and African and African American Studies at Harvard University for five years coming to the University of Pennsylvania in September 2005.

She is interested in studying issues of race, gender, sexuality, and class in the art of the United States and the "New World," and has worked with students to organize exhibitions on Polynesian art, Brazilian art, and African American art.
