The Kitchen | 512 West 19th Street
The International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), praised in The New Yorker recently for its “vivid, groundbreaking work,” returns to The Kitchen to present new works by ICElab 2013 collaborators Martin Hiendl and Monica Duncan. Featured will be a 30-minute excerpt from their ICElab 2013 work-in-progress, OFFSHORE, along with selections of Duncan's and Hiendl's previous works. OFFSHORE, an ambitious piece for two percussionists, two trumpets, tuba, horn, electronics, and video, is inspired by the visual and sonic patterns of nautical communications as ships meticulously steer into port, navigating a dangerous passage through shallow water, where ships barely skim the ocean floor. Peril arises from our attempt to migrate between these worlds of land and water. OFFSHORE will be created at The Kitchen and is part of the ICElab program, a laboratory for boundary-pushing new works by emerging composers and conceived in close collaboration with the musicians of ICE.
