A.I.R. Gallery | 111 Front Street
A.I.R. Gallery is pleased to present Untitled (Recent Paintings), a solo exhibition of recent work by the A.I.R. alumni artist, Ivy Dachman. This exhibition will be on view from January 10th through February 3rd, with an opening reception on Saturday, January 12th, from 5pm – 8pm.
In her fourth solo exhibition at A.I.R. Gallery, Ivy Dachman is showing a series of small gouaches on board, as well as her newest abstract paintings, constructed of charcoal, oil and wax on canvas. In Untitled (Recent Paintings), Dachman’s content originates from the psyche, as she employs a vast array of uniquely intuitive and visceral forms. Her primarily vertical arrangements present a unique abstraction rarely seen in traditional figure-ground compositions.
Dachman’s use of line defines and creates an ambiguity of composed shapes. The vibrancy of her palette, as it is applied to flat and seemingly unworked passages, adds to the intensity of her work. Maintaining and building on the poetic mystery of her past work, Dachman’s art achieves an even more forceful and startling presence today. The show’s name, Untitled, references Dachman’s practice of allowing the viewer to approach her work free from the encumbrances that come with labels.
Dachman is a past recipient of the New York Foundation for the Arts Artists Fellowship in Painting. She is a graduate of The Cooper Union, and holds a Master’s of Fine Arts from Queens College. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and is featured in numerous private and corporate collections.
