OCTOBRE À MADRID
With Chonette Loret & José Meneses.
“A filmmaker, Hanoun, has gone to Madrid to make a film. Once there, however, this picture – the only thing about which we learn is that it will be about the affair between a woman named Carmen and a man named Guillermo – has difficulties. […] Most of what we see, however, has nothing to do with Carmen and Guillermo. Their film turns into this search for the means to make that film. Along the way Hanoun speaks with the Spanish film director Luis García Berlanga, walks around Madrid, wanders through the massive open sets for THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE, even goes to the bullfights. His film becomes the record of his search for the way to make film. Like Dziga Vertov, he becomes a man with a movie camera making a film about making a film.” –MoMA
