ONLY ONCE - An improvised response to NOTHING TWICE in music and dance featuring dancers AMY SAUNDER, TIFFANY MANGULABNAN, and JORDAN MILLER. Accompanied by MAX KANOWITZ.
konverjdans, a contemporary ballet company founded in 2016 by Amy Saunder, Jordan Miller and Tiffany Mangulabnan - three dancer-creators who hail from Zimbabwe, the U.S. and the Philippines respectively - aims to celebrate the convergence of different art forms, backgrounds and experiences by creating meaningful choreography and thoughtful movement in collaboration with musicians, filmmakers and other artists, and always performing with live music.
Since its founding, konverjdans has collaborated with various New York-based artists such as musicians and composers Megg Farrell, Max Kanowitz and Peter Maness, filmmaker Sergio Carrasco and visual artist Nancy Baker. konverjdans has presented work at Gibney Dance Center, Bizarre Bushwick and Lovecraft Bar NYC, and chosen to premiere a new piece for Norte Maar’s CounterPointe 2017 at the Actors Fund Arts Center.
While their cultural and artistic backgrounds are diverse, Amy, Jordan and Tiffany’s roots all run in classical ballet, having danced professionally with companies such as the New York City Ballet, Suzanne Farrell Ballet, Philippine Ballet Theatre, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, BalletNext, North Carolina Dance Theatre, Richmond Ballet, and Eugene Ballet. They are also glad to be part of the lively and diverse New York City freelance scene where, in addition to konverjdans, they also work with various independent companies and contemporary choreographers.
Amy, Jordan and Tiffany’s mutual desires for convergence and collaboration and for absorbing a diverse array of artistic thoughts and ideas are the driving forces behind konverjdans. They hope that konverjdans continues to be a space for conducting open dialogues among artists of various fields and for creating new and rich experiences to share with diverse audiences, collaborators, friends, fellow artists, and one another.
konverjdans will be performing at the Actors Fund Arts Center in Brooklyn on April 7, 8 & 9, 2017, as part of Norte Maar’s CounterPointe5.
