1961. France. Directed by Jacques Rivette. Produced by Claude Chabrol. With Betty Schneider, Giani Esposito, Francoise Prevost, Daniel Crohem. Although Rivette had embarked on directing before his Cahiers du Cinéma colleagues, his breakthrough came slightly later. This film is a complex mystery, and it would come as no surprise that Rivette’s work would become perhaps the most iconoclastic of the New Wave directors. In French; English subtitles. 140 min.
In the Film exhibition An Auteurist History of Film
