Parrish Art Museum | 279 Montauk Highway
Special guests: Director Maryte Kavaliauskas, Producer Morning Slayter, and artists Malcolm Morley and John Torreano
“Shut Up and Look” is the story of the late American artist Richard Artschwager, who died in February 2013 at the age of 89.
An artist who defied easy categorization, Artschwager was called a Pop artist, a conceptual artist, a minimalist, as well as an enigma, a magician, a maverick and, according to Gagosian Gallery director Bob Monk, “a school of one.” The film provides an intimate look at this extraordinarily gifted man who, late in life, abandoned a reclusive lifestyle and allowed director Martye Kavaliauskas and producer Morning Slayter into the private world of his studio.
Agnes Gund, John Torreano, and Malcolm Morley are among the artists, collectors, and curators who reveal the personal side of a quirky, irreverent man, who continued to confound the critics by redefining his work and influencing a new generation of artists.
