Saint Edward the Martyr Church | 14 E 109th Street
As a public program for the exhibition Anchor, poet, musician, actor and visual artist, Saul Williams will stage a performance in the historic St. Edward the Martyr Church in East Harlem. The performance, titled Unanimous Goldmine, is based on an ongoing project that revolves around the fictional story of a young hacker from the coltan mines of Central Africa. Akin to a young Hiram Maristany, the figure traverses a land of doubt and fear while struggling to stay true to his own beliefs against a backdrop of social disparity, economic oppression, and environmental degradation.
St. Edward the Martyr Church was built in 1887 and since its foundation has served as a community beacon providing a space for community services and congregation.
Space is limited. Guests will be admitted on a first-come first-serve basis.
