Mike Weiss Gallery | 520 West 24th Street
Mike Weiss Gallery is proud to present Die Beobachter, a solo exhibition by German painter Stefanie Gutheil. In this new series, Gutheil surrounds imagined and fanciful creatures with colorful patterns. Flowing over and out of their gilded frames’ physical limits, these three-dimensional paintings capture grotesque scenes with animals, half-human figures and invented beasts that represent Gutheil’s continued exploration of excess, exaggeration, chaos, and figurative painting.
Stefanie Gutheil was born in Ravensburg, Germany. She currently lives and works in Berlin, where she received her Bachelors and Masters of Art from the Universität der Künste. Recent exhibitions include a solo show at the Kunstverein Kölnberg in Cologne, Germany and a group show at the Galleri Arnstedt in Sweden. Her work is included in the collections of the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art in Peekskill, NY, the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art in Overland Park, KS, the Eileen S. Kaminsky Family Foundation in New York, NY, the Collection Majudia in Montreal, Canada, and the Taguchi Art Collection in Tokyo, Japan.
