Valeska Soares (MFA Fine Arts '94) was born in Brazil, and has lived and worked in Brooklyn, NY since 1992. In 2017, she will be the subject of a traveling museum survey, curated by Julie Joyce and Vanessa Davidson organized by the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and the Phoenix Art Museum. She will also present a new installation for The Matrix series at Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford. Soares’s works are included in numerous museum collections and she has participated in various exhibitions of international art, including the Sao Paulo Biennial and the Venice Biennale. She is represented by Galeria Fortesvilaca in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Each year professional artists are invited to give lectures at Pratt and conduct studio visits with our graduate students. The Visiting Artists Lectures are coordinated by two selected graduate students and overseen by faculty advisors. The goal for the lectures and studio visits is to provide our students with exposure to a wide array of artists working in a variety of fields at various stages in their career.

Pratt Institute's Department of Fine Arts 2016/2017 Visiting Artists Lecture Series was made possible in part by generous grants from The Robert Lehman Foundation and The Wolf Kahn and Emily Mason Foundation.
