The Kitchen | 512 W 19th St
Xaviera Simmons presents a new body of photographic, video, and text-based sculptural works in conjunction with a new performance in the theater that continue Simmons' investigations of non-linear narrative and memory against present and future histories. With this new body of work, Simmons mines a vocabulary of poses and gestures she has culled from art historical sources and archival imagery and texts relating to constructions of masculinity and femininity within several distinct groups of people formed around specific ways of being together. Curated by Matthew Lyons.
Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday, 12pm-6pm, Saturday, 11-6pm.
Performances: July 21 and 22, 8pm. Tickets: $15 – Tickets will go on sale in June.
